Lucy’s life’s work is to advance girls’ education and women’s leadership. As chief executive of CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education), she developed a highly-acclaimed model – cited in Forbes as, “how some of the poorest girls in the world get exactly the education they need.” In 2020, Lucy was awarded the prestigious Yidan Prize, the world’s largest education prize. She has been recognized with a Queen’s Honor and under her leadership, CAMFED won the 2021 Hilton Humanitarian Prize and the Princess of Asturias Award. Lucy was Chair of the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative, and on the High – Level Steering Committee of the Global Education Commission.
Lucy regularly speaks on global platforms such as the United Nations, World Bank, Brookings, Skoll World Forum, LEGO Ideas Conference, the London School of Economics, and Stanford University.
