Sara Wahedi keeps Afghans safer. Creator of Ehtesab, which translates loosely to “accountability” or “transparency,” Sara shares crowd-sourced and verified reports of bombings, rockblocks, and gun violence across Kabul in real time. Motivated by her own harrowing experience trying to make her way home after a bombing, Sara got to work building an app to replace piecemeal updates that made their way to folks through Facebook.
When she’s not hitting the books as a student at Columbia, Sara is racking up awards as one of the BBC’s 100 Women, MIT’s Innovators under 35, and TIME’s Next Generation Leaders.
